:?: Hate? no, hate is such a strong word - there's other things related to drumhood worthy of such a strong emotion. Me just think Bozzio's erection set is .............. silly. I leave "hate" for the fella that breaks my splash when sitting in; the folks who can't play straight-ahead jazz, but then want to comment on players who do; folks who change shit when sitting in, and- my really big pet pee: Sound men who look at my unported bass drum head and ask if they can cut a hole in it. <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxmk502YYUS%2526i%253D36%252F36%255F1%255F28%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_28.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D36%252F36_1_28/image.gif"></a>

Maybe you don't understand the concept behind Terry's kit. All of the toms are tuned to specific notes and in particular scales. They cymbals are also set up in a simmilar fashion. Not only is he creating rythmic combinations that incorperate ungodly 4 way coordination but he is also playing actual "tunes/songs".

Racefan: No, I got that but thanks for the amount of courtesy in your reply.

I've been watching Bozzio for years - his playing/approach just never did appeal to me. All of the iterations of his past set-ups have had this same type of melodic/chromatic bent for years - this set is simply the latest (and certainly greatest) manifestation of his conceptualization of what he's trying to do. Bill Ray would probably appreciate this more as Bozzio has a performance artist aspect to his playing - the drums have simply become Bozzio's medium of expression (Bill likes Picasso and occassionally even admits to mentally undressing women in the club for inspiration when he plays  ).

Bozzio has chops to be certain, and I imagine that it has to be a bear to play that beast, but when it's all send and done, what he has accomplished with it leaves me cold.

Guess that's the beauty of our drummer garden: You're certain to eventually find that which turns you on.

Regards,

Well for me it's more fun undressing women mentally than men. I mean, I can take off the cowboy hat and then it's like "uh, that's enough kthxbye". I'm a big fan of the feminine form.

INDEED. AN EXERCISE IN EMBALLISHMENT, LIKE MIKE PORTNOY. oops, caps on. That much gear is ridiculous and unnecessary. IMO

If it works for Terry, then there is no reason to hate what he's doing..........there are some sounds that I like more than others and there are some that just
don't do it for me; but the only sound I truly hate is the scratching of fingernails on the chalkboard.

i don't think it's embellishment at all. he plays drums like a percussionist would play marimba, xylophone, etc. he uses normal drums as melodic instruments, which to me is mind boggling.

Refer to racefan's post, you truly are ignorant if you can't understand the difference in the setups of Portnoy and Bozzio.

Portnoy is just "I'm going to milk my sponsors for all their worth and build a huge monster," while Bozzio is "I'm going to design these huge kits and play the drums like a piano and carefully tune each tom and carefully place each cymbal and prove drums can be melodic."

Got it?

Guys, i know its tuned to certain notes and everything, im not one of those guys who heres or sees something and makes up his mind, i know a little about what im talkin about, and he could have chosen a different (lower) octave of his drums, thats what i mean about the sound, i dont like the type of sound his drums make, except for his bass drums, those sound amazing.

Do we really have to explain it to every freaking person?

Please read this thread, you will understand why he has so many toms.

No Kiddin Hunh ? he's being inovative..why can't folks understand that ? So many of us here would NOT know to do the things that we do now if it wasn't for folks being inovative..John Bonham helped bring out the beefy kick drum and triplets..But if you watch some of the older cats before him you can hear them doing them...I'm sure Johnny used what he had heard to do the things he did..I don't hear anyone crying about Bonzo..Jeeez...No one says anyone has to like it, but I do wish folks can understand it..Ya Know this is something new as for one person playing so many drums in that way..Go Get Em Terry..!!

Terry Bozzio is the $#!+. The only thing I hate is his Drum techs and roadies who have to set it up but then again I would love to be him because he doesn't have to worry about setting it up.
