I have had a mapex v-series for about 7 years [they have been replaced with the vx series ):] and it is a very nice basswood kit. I've been planning an update for a long time now. Can you guys give me a nice birch drumkit thats a real bang for my buck?

I hate to say it but PDP makes a great and not wallet breaking, birch kit. I was just listening to mine tonight as i was playing it...REALLY listening and i just love the sound with no muffling and remo ebony pinstripes. So check PDP

Does Mapex make anything in Birch? I am thinking of you being able to use all of your stands that you already own.
