Hey,
I'm looking for the thinnest wood shells WITHOUT reinforcement rings available. Any comments? Right now the thinnest I know without the rings are Mapex Saturn series- 5.1 mm thick.

Yes, they are thinner but have rings. Then again, MRX which have 6 plies of maple are thicker than the saturn pro shells.

I found the best way for thin shells is to custom order them. Precision drum company has a 5-ply maple 3.3mm. They are based out of New York. I got a 20x20" bass drum from them that i love, mainly cause it has a nice big sound and its really light to carry around. They will cut the edges and drill the holes and basically do whatever you want.
