so i picked up my holiday cash the other day and im deciding to put it to good use by spending it on a new kit. Ive narrowed it down to either the 6 piece Sonor Force 2007 or the 6 piece Mapex Pro M. Both kits are birch which is what im after and both kits are the same price. Ive had a quick bang on both and they both sound great. But i cant decide. Im swinging a bit towards Sonor just cause its Sonor. But i know there's plenty of people on this forum with good stuff to say about the Pro M's. So what are your thoughts people??

the pro m is 100% maple, so id definately go for that. the sonor is birch, and i have an m birch now, but id love a maple kit

I'd go for the Sonor, they are such nice kits. Mapex is great too, but IMHO the 2007 LOOKS better, but I haven't played either one.

Dude this is so funny because my set is a combination of Sonor Force 2000, and Mapex Mars (or M). Basically what you are deciding from. Either way, you can't lose. IMO durability goes to Sonor, sound/ease of tuning goes to Mapex. Good luck! :D

ah yes! my mistake. Pro Ms are 100% maple. im more leaning towards birch cos its a bit punchier with more low end. i think ill have to play them both a bit more. im getting it in the next week or so, so ill post sum pics up of my decision.
cheers for the help!

isnt maple warmer with more low end than birch, which when compared is brighter and higher pitched. then mahogany is the lowest and warmest

birch and maple both have great low end, birch just has more high end as well. personally i think birch, being a more well rounded wood, sounds better. i would probably go with the sonors.

You haven't seen the M burst kits haha! http://daddys.com/blog/wp-content/uploa ... h-blue.jpg <check it

Anywho, I'm undecided. These manufacturers happen to be my favorites. I'd say, why not go with what will save you money? I guarantee they'll both sound great!
you know what? shutup man! lol jk. I have seen the bursts and they are quite beautiful, kinda forgot about tht finish when i posted, my bad bra.

i still think the hardware on the sonors LOOK better, but mapex's hardware is great too. the 2007 just looks more like a pro kit to me. but this is just all my opinion, plz dont get offended howe!

Oh, understood, tis why I made the personal mods to my kit with the all white heads and whatnot. I believe its all in the lugs of the Sonors that make the kits look great.

i wonder y they make the bass drum 17.5 instead of 18 or 20? just a thort :)
I believe SGarett said that acoustically, the shell stops resonating past that number or something?

happy new year people!
well i eventually decided on the birch sonor and i couldnt be more happier. Its a 7 piece and it looks absolutly stunning. Im still in the process of tuning and moving stuff to feel more comfortable. Which is kinda stressing me out at the moment. I seem to be struggling to get my cymbals in a good position. weird. Anywho ill try and post sum pics up soon.

currently saving for a sonor. ive seen a lot of mapex drums and they look nice but dont really cater to the sound i want to hear.

witch sonor kit should i keep in mind for metal? i want quick rack toms with a nice full sound and some lovely lows in my floor tom(s).im thinking 6 or 7 piece.

Finally got it set up. The finish is beautiful and after a quick tune the toms just sing. Some better quality heads are next on the list.
