My Interview with Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) - VIDEO

Hey all! I have an online magazine where I interview different musicians each month. If you go to:

www.backstagemusician.com and click on "interviews" you will see a link at the bottom of the page with a video interview of Gavin Harrison I did back in October. I thought you all might enjoy!

Here's a little preview.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OxBEp_LSo_k&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OxBEp_LSo_k&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

I should also mention, that in my interviews, I don't ask the stock questions about gear and the latest album. You can read any other interview on the net for that. My interviews assume you already know what they do for a living here, you find out who they are. I get tons of emails of why I didn't ask someone like Gavin about double bass drumming, etc. So...thats why.

Anyway...just thought you might enjoy.

Aaron

p.s. I also have a text interview with Stanton Moore on there. ;)

I tried to watch it but it didn't work
I really need to pay attention to this guy
Evidently, he's been doing what I wanna do for a while and doing it very well
I never paid attention to them because the name "Porcupine Tree" sounds like a jam band
Sometimes my centered focus can exclude some valuable informtion simply because of the name

Wow, seems a little obscure and ignorant that you would do such a thing. I suggest opening your mind.

They completely rule dude. Gavin is an amazing drummer and is also working with King Crimson now too. Porcupine Tree is a very structured band. Definitely in the realm of prog rock but not all chops. More focused on songwriting which is a rarity in the prog world (in my opinion). Check'em out dude, they rule.

p.s. Why didn't the video work? The one I posted on here or on backstagemusician.com? I just want to make sure I don't have an issue to fix. thanks...

I went through GH's "Rhythmic Illusions" and that other clusterf*ck of a book he did. It was hard but I learned so much. "4 dimensional rhythms".....Gah!! I get a headache to this day thinking of it.

Yeah man, he's from another planet. I have the Illusions and Horizons DVD's and they take a few times through to really grasp it. Gavin has SUCH an amazing understanding of music composition, its hard to believe his way of thinking and comprehend at first. But once you get used to his mind, everything really starts to sink in. I love watching drummers of all kinds. I'd recommend Stanton Moore's "Takin' it to the Streets" dvd. He's got some really cool jazz/funk grooves that he teaches. It'll really help broaden anyones scope. I haven't really dabbled too much in New Orleans funk so this is the perfect starter! (and he's easy to understand. )

I don't have the ability to tell you why it didn't work
All I know is that when I got to this pagehttp://www.backstagemusician.com/index1.htm the box to the right of the pic of the guys on the bus didn't load
I moused over the page and couldn't find a "start button" for the video

You're absolutely right
I should go out and listen to more sucky ass formula bands so that I can re-affirm how good the music I actually like is
You are wise beyond your years

Well damn it! I get to the page and see the video but its like a "green screen." The page has been getting a lot of hits today, maybe thats why. Never-the-less, I might throw up a link for people to download for such occassions.

Thanks for pointing it out dude. I'll let ya know when I get a link on there. It'll be a few hours though. Don't want ya to miss out!

Yes, Gavin is an alien.
Porcupine Tree has some of the best musicians on the planet in my opinion. Everything they do is so.....good. It's almost perfection. They have around 13 albums released, torrent dat! (Sound of Muzak actually got me off my ass to start learning how to play drums good, kudos to PT.)
