My first snare

I've been meaning to post this for a while but for various reasons i've only got around to it now.
Cutting
Lets go a bit through the process first.
To begin with i got pieces of timber that were about twice the depth of the snare and set up a jig which held it in place at roughly 10 degrees from flat. Then i ran a router which was verticle along the length of the piece of timber and slowly made it deeper until the whole thing was "cut" to 10 degrees. Then flipped it so both sides were 10 degrees, i did this will all the pieces of timber then cut them to length with a drop saw.

Glueing
After this i glued and nailed them all together within the rims to hold them in place, and left it over night to dry. Then i used a router to the bulk of the timber out for the bearing edge.

Bearing edging
Then i used a circle cutter to cut a piece of cardboard out with a diameter of slightly less than 14". I traced the outside of the circle onto the timber and used a rasp to get it as sharp as i could on the line. Then i drilled and retrofitted the rims lugs, etc from my old snare to this snare. And after people on this forum told me about snare beds i attempted to put some of those in.

Future Work
Im getting some new snare wires on the weekend cause as you can see in the photo these ones are pretty rooted. I want to fix the snare beds but im not sure what they are actually ment to be, can someone tell me? And im going to thin the inside sand back the outside and glue residue, stain it, and replace the throw off, but thats a while down the track, so really these are more progress pictures...

P.S
I did this for the fun of it and it didnt cost me anything. I was keen on doing it with as little expense as possible and to do as much of it myself by hand-ish. So if you want to make a joke about how poor it is (e.g that bearing edge is nearly as bad as the ones on Ddrums), go for it (as long as it's funny), and if you want to give helpful advice that would be appreciated tremendously, but if you want to pull an "Ivy" on me and just say "thats crap, your gay, this is shit" than do it somewhere else please.

Also some of the colours look a bit funny because of the camera.

Looks good, how does it sound, could you do a video or something of you playing it?
I don't think anyone can critscise it, for a first snare, it looks great, I could never do that!

That's wicked!

It looks...insane.

I would keep it forever just to show people! :)

Nice job man, it's impressive that you did it practically for nothing, and by your own hands.

I'll tell you what. Its saturday at the moment, I'm going to get all the bearing edges flat (as i should of done a long time ago) by comparing them to a piece of slate of granet we have lying around for some reason, then rasp (a rasp is a file, but with teeth) the high bits flat. The reason why i havent done that is because the lugs are right at the end of their thread because they are off a 7" deep snare and this is a 5" deep. Then i'll fix one of the snare beds which is a bit shallow.

And tomorrow i'm going into the city and im going to get some new lugs with more thread (hopefully i can find them) and a new set of wires, probably pearl because i think thats all the biggest drum store within 2 hours of me stocks, but at least the will be straight. Then on Monday i'll make sure its all in tunes and i'll make some recordings. And it should sound better way better then, i just want it to sound good for you guys.

EDIT: Come to think of it, my snare will be done after i've done all that, so i might even get a new throw off while I'm there and today sand it back to make it look a bit nicer and stain it, then i'll just make a new post with new pics, some videos and/or sound bites.

So in 2 days it should be up and done.
