i swear everyone in my band is lazy besides me, no one cares enough to make up some songs or put some effort in, if they all weren't the best i could find and my good friends i would leave them, does anyone else have similar problems and maybe a helpful solution :?:

I've had that same issue many times. I usually find a new band because it's all-but a losing battle trying to convince unmotivated people to work.

A little obsessed? Dime was the shit, but let him R.I.P I say. I'm a really big fan of Mike Portnoy, but I'm not buying all of his stuff(ie drums, sticks, effects percussion, max stax - Dream Theater tshirts don't count in this) because whereas I like listening to the guy's work, I don't want to BE him. I want to BE original, with licks and passages inspired by him.

A bit of advice for you, druming=life: lack of motivation is your cue to ditch em' and find like minded musicians. You can say something like, "Look, it's not personal, but I don't think y'all care about the music as much as I do..." and so on. If anything, a statement like that may light a fire under them and they could snap into action. Because they might not even realize they are doing it. Either which way you look at it, you gotta at least say something to them about it, because it's only going to get worse down the road if not dealt with. And losing friends over stupid shit is not the way to go, my friend. I can speak from experience that sometimes when things aren't dealt with, everything tends to spiral out of control until said friends part company on bad terms and then don't speak for 7 years. I wish you the best of luck.

i think we're.....the same person!!!! did you have a dream about almost havin sex with a pornstar on a front lawn last night but a cop showed up? if so im pretty sure we are.

but in all seriousness, YOU have to be the one to take the lead if they're your god friends. thats exactly what im doing. i know our guitar player can write some sick ass shit and HE DOES, but it seems like no one is motivated to learn it. thats why at practice i say NO to smoke breaks that last 30 minutes and i say NO to "hey lets just call it quits for tonight"

you need to be the one to take charge if no one else will

Ooooh, been there. I just started talking to the guys from one of my first bands last year. It was seven or eight years since we'd talked. Really too bad, too. I honestly think that band had a chance that long ago. But I graduated high school a year earlier than them and they actually said this to me, "we don't want to gig much because this is our last year of high school and we want to party on the weekends." That blew me away. I was like, "you can't party after the gig like other musicians?" And they said, "that's not what we want."

yea, we are practicing tonite, and i've honestly said to them so many times before that i would quit if things didn't start getting serious, but the problem with quiting is there is no one else in my area besides emo fags that i can play with, and i'm not looking to turn emo........ so after tonites practice if nothing grand is acomplished then i'm most likely going to call it quits

And...how did it go? Personally, I'd use the dead time to practice and get my craft down pat and then start looking for bands to play with.

I've been telling myself that for years now...

Hey, wait a minute, I had that dream too, wow i'm freaking out now!!!!!!!
Anyway, motivation, or lack there of defines a bands outcome, period. I know of bands who's talent can be measured in a spoon, that get gigs, and turnouts, because they: PRACTICE, COORDINATE, and COMMUNICATE.
And I know bands made up of Prodigies that go no where, cuz they lay back and expect shit to happen for them. If you want success, you gotta work for it.

haha, so get this we practice last night for about 2 and a half hours, first hour and a half sucked nothing was acomplished and it seemed like there was a shreeding contest going on between the guitars, which might have been cool, if it weren't for the fact that nothing was being acomplished by it..... but then one of the guitar players has to leave and get home and as soon as he's gone we get 3 songs written hahahaha, and they guy that left is like the "prodigy" of the group, awesome guitar player and a very good lyric writter too, funny how stuff turns out, ah well, maybe things will look up, and i convinced the guitar player that left to write some riffs and lyrics with it, and i'm pretty sure he did

Take control of rehearsals then. When they get into their guitar god wank fest, just stop playing. If they don't stop playing, walk outside and wait for them to stop. When you come back in simple say, "can we get back to work now or do you two need the room to yourselves for awhile?" Nothing drives the point home like putting your sticks down.

haha, i'll try that next time, usually i just yell over the guitar screams until i'm red in the face, which i've noticed dosen't help
