Great remote hi hat devices

What is the best remote hat in your opinion? I'm thinking about buyin Pearl RH-2000 or DW 9502. What do you think about them? Got any other propositions?

From Shalaq:
This is a "best" topic changed to "great", because there is no such thing as "best" in the drumming world

I've toured with the Pearl recently; got it off ebay.
It never let me down yet.
I took the legs off, and you can pretty much squeeze it in anywhere.
My latest experiment has been mounting the hat directly in front of me, over the toms, instead of to the traditional left side position. I'm really like it.

It's the only model I've used though, so I can't really compare.

That's what I want to do - I'm going to put it in front of me. I think I'll go with Pearl, but the DW looks nice, too. The worst thing is that I don't have any opportunity to try them out... Thanks for your reply, m

yeah, it's tough when you can't experiment with them-
I took a risk and bought this one without being able to try it out, but it's worked out great!
Took a little experimenting with clamps and stands to get it where I want it, but I finally figured out how to do it, and I really like having it positioned this way.

I love the way your kit is set up! Does your RH-2000 feel less smooth than a normal hi hat stand? Will it work well with heavier cymbals like paiste signature heavy hats that I'm using?

thanks! I'm still working on placement and bringing in a few more goodies, but it's coming along.

My custom hats are pretty heavy, and I've used Sabian and Zildjians before that, none of which have been 'light.'
It does fine~ feels good to me. I think you might detect a tiny fraction of a difference at first, what seemed like a barely perceptible 'delay' until I got everything adjusted for my playing style, but it feels fine to me now.

Just be sure to have a really heavy-duty clamp ready.
Are you using a rack system or a stand?

I'm using a stand, probably a premier 6000 boom stand. Thanks to your replies I'm determined to buy RH-2000, so I'm saving money for it:p Cheers:)

cool- hope you like it!

Might want to prepare a bit ahead of time, stand- and clamp-wise...
I had a hard time getting mine positioned where I wanted it. Most stands didn't reach up high enough to get me clearance over my toms (I wanted it like the pic shows, with the toms almost touching still- most symmetrical players seem to put the hat between the toms, but I wanted mine above it, overlapping them~ so they could be as close together as possible still)

I had to rig something together out of rack parts and pieces of other stands, but finally got it working.

If you want yours is the standard "Bruford" config, that probably won't be tough. But if you want it higher than your toms, it can be tricky.

hmmm... that gets me to thinking...
maybe I should have put it between my snare and toms. Lots of people put toms OVER the hat when it's on the left side. Maybe I should have done something like that.
ah well.
it's all a work in progress.

Keep us posted! I want to see your version~

You'll have to wait a month or two, cause I have some other expenses at the moment(unfortunately). But you can be sure that I'll post pics here:)

PS - I think I'll go for the Brufordish kind of setup.
PS2 - please post some pics of your kit in Show Us Your Kit section because I'm sure it is something extraordinary!:)

yep, that's pretty much what inspired me, but I don't like them spread out quite that far.

weird though, I hadn't realized it yet, but if you put 2 crashes above the rides, that's pretty much the configuration I ended up with.
uh oh, looks like I'm idolizing someone...

I play with the DW 9000s and they are awesome. I have it between my 16'' and my snare so that I have Hats on both sides of my snare. It works well for me because i'm ambidextrous, but it doesn't work well for my drumming friends because they always hit it. I'll try to get some pictures as soon as i'm technologically savoy enough to figure out how to do it.

Can't wait to see pics! I haven't decided yet(mainly because I don't have money atm, but whatever... ;) )
