Drummers in College?

I'd like to know who else is studying drums/percussion in college. It would be cool to compare experiences, etc. We could start by stating where we go to school, how far along we are, and what our major focus or interest is etc.

I'm a freshman at Idaho State (I like it because it's a small program and not very intimidating). I'm working on a second bachelor's (my first was in Political Science, now I'm going back to do what I really like).

We don't really have to pick an emphasis, but right now I'm really digging snare drum and timpani, despite the fact that I'm spending most of my time on marimba. As far as drum kit, I'm playing in jazz band, which is actually kind of a new thing for me. I play rock on my own, so jazz is slowly becoming more comfortable. Any advice from you hard core jazz people?

I go to The University of Oklahoma....I've taken a year of set classes at the school of music. I need to get back in to it, no bands to play with or classes currently, so I feel like my brain is melting.

Last class I had, we were focusing on funk rythms, off time hi hat patterns, etc. It was fun stuff! :D

I go to the Berklee college of music in Boston Mass. I am in my third semester here and my principle instrument is drumset. I'm majoring in performance and composition.

How the hell do you know my name?

Lets see...Been playing the drums for 10 years (and im only 18, holy moly!) I go to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, a hidden Jazz Gem. Every jazz professor here is a recorded artist, with my drum teacher on at least 50-75 records, has played with Dizzy Gilspie, and other Jazz Giants. The percussion teacher here is working on his doctoral in percussion at the University of North Texas. Yeah, this is one badass school for percussion and jazz...and I'm on in-state tuition!! HAHA suckers!

Since im a freshman at college, haven't gotten far yet, but this place is hardcore. Easily, this place is the Berklee of the South when it comes to jazz studies.

My current lessons comprise of:

--Locrian Scales, 2 octaves and arpeggios
--Lydian Scales, 2-3 octaves and arpeggios with the 4th
--Symcopation, pages 33-44 (old book) playing with the swing pattern in the ride, and playing the patterns in the book with my HI-HAT foot, and then back again with the hi-hat adding 4-on-the-floor in the bass drum.
--Stick Control, page 6, playing the R in my snare and the L in the bass. Swing pattern in my ride and 2 + 4 on the hats.
--For Solo Class (students in the Percussion Studio work up a solo for a Studio recital, nothing spectacular, more of a show-off to friends), I am working up Maiden Voyage with my Jazz Combo, and a rudimental solo called Ready Or Not by Matt Savage. It's in the book Just Desserts.

Tall order, and the lesson stuff is done by thursday. woot woot.
