Drop clutch

i had one and i ended up just taking it off. I got sick of it not grabbing back onto the top hat, and it would sometimes misfire and close my hats. I dont think it was worth it

I have never had this problem in twenty years of using a drop clutch. I eventually migrated to a DW drop clutch and have never had any problems!

I'm not sure if the same problem exists now but I have noticed that Pearl uses thicker rods on their hi-hats stands and most drop clutches do not have a big enough hole

The drop clutch tends to work better when you have a decent amount of space between cymbals
If you get them too close and play the hats too hard, the resulting movement causes the mechanism to cluch on it's own and stay open

i thought a drop clutch would be great for me since i use double bass so much. i bet i used it no more than month. its sitting in a pile of random hardware in my basement. it worked great though. made by pearl.

I feel the same way.....I though I needed one, bought one....and ended up leaving it always in the up position........

i have a gibraltar one. i had to drill the hole out because it wouldnt fit on my hihat rod and then it was iffy as to if it would grab or not...the felt was too thick and the hook didnt always grab. after about 3 days this problem vanished and its been fine ever since. the only problem i have is sometimes ill hit the drop mechanism and the force will also loosen the wingnut and after about 5 times of this the whole clutch will drop but if you check it after a piece where you use it then youll be fine. and it doesnt always happen, just at inopportune times like everything else.

Yeah I have a Gibraltar and I'm having the same problem with it. It sticks and doesn't want to grab onto the top cymbal again. Maybe I just need to oil it or something, but I doubt it. Seems like cheap construction. I'm gonna try a DW, and if I have the same problems I'm not gonna bother with them anymore.

I have a Ludwig DC that fits on every stand that I've tried. Never had a problem with it, but a I wouldn't use it for recordings. It makes some noise when it grips, and once assembled it also makes some noise from the 2 parts going against each other. This could be fixed with some kind of bushing or muffling washer (like those on glokenspiels).

you just need to ajust the top part up or down so it grabs perfectly
