buy the keller shells and make your own..if u know how to drill and stain.
do those sound good?
That's what about 90% of all the "custom" companies use out there for shells.

If it was me i would just go with Epiarch.

Epiarchs a keller company that pretty much does all the work for you and costs a bit more than it would you to build a set.

Their kits aren't expensive. You can get a custom 5 piece kit from them under 2000$ with snare and such. http://www.epiarchdrums.com/Definitive%20Series.html

and the quality is great from what i read on the pearldrummersforum

If you want to go custom, try Truth. The drummer for Anberlin uses them and they sound awesome. Other drummers/bands that use Truth are: Kutless, UnderOath, As I Lay Dying, MxPx, Halifax and Atreyu.

AMDrumparts.com sells keller maple shells, birch shells and acrylic shells, and will drill and cut edges for you as well as apply a wrap finish if you order the lugs and rims and such from them as well. I priced a typical 4 piece from them at around $1,000. And that's scrimping on NOTHING. As soon as I have that spare grand laying around, I'll do it and post pics.

If you want to see some now, talk to sarcasmsetyourhouseonfire, he's dealt with them and posted pics somewhere here of 2 kits he built with them.

be sure to research who is doing the work, as well, if you get it done through some back woods cat. You never know, your 2-3 grand for a custom "no name" kit could end up a timeless masterpiece; you know?
