An important warning to Mapex users

Hello,

I just noticed that my Mapex Saturn Pro's bassdrum is slightly warped. Probably due to the weight of the mountint bracket, and toms that it was supporting. I took all that off, but its still a little bent. If you have a Saturn kit, and you have your toms mounted on the bassdrum, I highly suggest looking to see if its out of round or not. Try putting the toms on stands instead.

I don't know if this is a flaw of Mapex, or If the previous owner of my set liked to sit on the bassdrum, but it's better to be safe then sorry....

Cheers
Rob

The Saturn Series do have very thin shells but the BD is 7.1 mm thick so that's pretty standard. I've seen a lot of BDs from various brands slightly warp because of mounted toms on the BD so I wouldn't say it's specifically a Mapex issue.

By any chance is your set in a basement or somewhere else where the humidity is high?

In any event, you bring up a good point and a reminder to others. In short, put your toms on a rack or a stand. Otherwise, you run the risk of warping your BD shell.

I have my drums in the studio that I built in the garage. there should be no humidity. As for the previous owner, it could have been underwater for all I know hahah. He probably had it in a slightly damp place. All the other drums are in perfect condition, so it's not that big of a deal.

I'll inspect my kick when I'll retune the bass drum. I'm actually planning on removing the bass tom holder, as I usually use only one rack tom and the kick is a virgin anyway, so it'll look good.
