And this isn't relegated exclusively to the drums! I have heard songs that I wondered "Who thought that would sound good?"

What's up with all of the posts that have to do with Metallica's St. Anger album? Like it's such a surprise that Metallica made a bad album.

Simon Philips on toto songs originaly played by Jeff Porcaro..man he ruined every one of them...don't get me wrong I think of Simon as a very solid drummer, but he is just not for TOTO...if you think that I am wrong about it please listen Rosana,Africa,Jake to the Bone studio and live versions performed by Simon...

I must tend to agree with the grooveman, and especiaily with the poster who said "anything I played on" (too f**kin funny) Not a big Metallica fan, so I'm not familiar w\St. Anger (I really do like the "Beatallica" Beatles covers, though)
but the fact that he's being so maligned by other drummers makes me want to hear it. I'll bet Joey Jordison smoked him, but as far as being the "right drummer for the band", it's probably debatable...

the drumming isn't inappropriate on st. anger. they go with the songs. the negative aspects are all in the actual sounds of the drums.
Beat on.

Dust in the Wind.

Drummers try and put something there that was never intended. Just Bongo's only.
