I know some drummers (guys) who can dance quite well..and I do belly dance and hip hop. It improves coordination so I think these two (dancing n drumming) go very well together. Like the derbukka drum in bellydance. Btw, does anyone here play the derbukka or owns one at home? Just a random question.

This is awesome. Someone finally displays a good sense of humor on this thing. I mean seriously, who want to talk about drums? haha

I am an amazing dancer. I've only really danced once. It was at my senior prom. I lit up the dance floor. I dropped it like it was hott. I shaked it like a salt shaker. I haven't danced since then, but I'm sure I still got it.

Lets not forget about black drummers here. haha Sorry to profile, I love my bruthas, but they are way better dancers and tend to be way better drummers too.

I will dance if provoked, but it is doubtful anyone will enjoy it, including me.

I guess it depends on what kind of dance, I've actually read a study that exercizes like drumming or bike riding actually inhibit flexibilty. So statistically, drummers would have to work extra hard at learning stuff like ballet or break dancing or trick karate or anything that calls for high kicks or leg lifts. but as far as normal club dancing goes, or hardcore dancing, or "horizontally" dancing, either you're a natural or not. Although the more you do something the better you get.

I consider myself a good dancer, I also consider myself a good drummer, but I don't think the two are very related.

I am not comfortable dancing in the least, but the few times I've been drunk enough to do it, people tell me I'm not THAT bad.
Since I have been asked from time to time to dance I've compiled some godd excuses to tell people no.
"Sorry, I'm a white guy, I have no rythm."

"Dancing interferes with my drinking."

"Sorry I'm a drummer, my rythm only works while I am sitting."

"Actually, shortly after the Van Halen video for "Hot for Teacher", drummers were forbidden from dancing in public."

but....give me some time @ the bar & i'll show u some sh*t!

although i have to mention that drinking & drumming don't mix. i've gotten drunk ONCE and attempted the art. i couldn't even move my legs. LOL

I can't dance because I'm 32, played soccer for 13 years, and marched in drum corps for over half of my life. My knees are shot to hell. I can play polyrythmic ostinato patterns in many and varied time signatures though. Let's see all them dancers pull that one out of the hat.
