since you have a dampened btter head now, you should try taking out the pillows. but in the end do what sounds right and feels right. i cant play with an empty bass drum cuz i hate the way it feels

I tried taking out the pillows. It's definitely not better. I put them back in and was kinda upset at waisting my time.

I just purchased an Emad 1 ply batter head yesterday. Tried it without the pillow and with either ring it still had too much tone. Ended up putting the pillow back in and it sounds just like my stock head. :(

Same here. When mine wears out I'm going back to the Aquarian Superkick II.

I use the emad 2 with the stock drum logo bass head on the front. sounds pretty good. has a nice deep warm tone to it, I think I'm gong to stick with evans for awhile. except for on the snare, in which case i will only use remo heads.

I guess I'm going against the grain here, but I did not particularly care for the Emad head that came on my Gretsch Renown Maples; it seemed to choke the life out of my kick drum. For my primary gig, I keep the batter and reso heads pretty loose; basically just enough tension to smooth out the wrinkles. I have a ported EQ2 reso and nothing but an old towel insided, not touching either head. This is just for places where there is no mic stand for the kick mic and the sound guy wants to put a mic inside the kick. I switched it to a coated Powerstroke 3. I've tried the Superkicks, Pinstripes, and EQ2's on the batter, but I always seem to come back to the PS 3. The tone is focused and articulate while letting the natural warmth of the drum sing.

I've got the emad with an eq3 reso. I like the emad a lot but the only downside for me is, i'm guessing because it's a 2-ply, i sometimes get a background sound of just plastic (like hitting a head that isn't on a drum). I get the tone but it's mixed in with that dead plastic sound.

Guyssss!!! OMG. I just got a real white reso (for any of u whove seen my spray painted one). Its a Evans g1 coated reso on my 22" birch kick. FKIN ROCKS! Thing Booms like no other! I have the perfect bass set-up!

Boom for funk, dw beaters for punch (using a heavy foot) and triggers for intense speeds!

I win!

I use the Emad 2, and I have a Pulse stock logo on the front of the kick. has a great punch to it. I wanted to try and get the emad on the front as well, but I'm probabaly not going to.
