For those of you who use the EMAD head for your bass drum, what resonant head do you use for it, and what kind of sound is achieved?

I've just used a regular logo head(remo). It has good attack, the coated head less not so much attack but still does all right. Emad system is very comfortable- changing feels and muffling of the kick in a short time is very handy when you play a lot of gigs.

When I used an Emad, I used a regular Powerstrok III front. It sounded good. Then I tried a screen head on the front with it which gives it the same sound and feel as no head at all. It sounded amazing!

The Emad is a good head. It is surprisingly much louder than any other kick head I've used. It actually sounds like it is mic'd up just as it is, acoustically. This, however, means that with out a good sound man, when you do put a mic on it, it actually has too much attack. In some scenarios, there is no such thing as too much kick drum attack though, namely metal. The main reason I stopped using the Emad is the flimsy plastic ring that holds the muffling in place. All you have to do is accidentally apply the smallest amount of pressure to it for it to crack. The problem is, once you start the crack, everytime you hit the drum, the crack gets bigger. Eventually the crack will go all the way around and the muffling will fall off, then you have to tape it on or buy a new head. This got very annoying to me.

Just for the record, the Emad provides the perfect amount of muffling, never put any additional muffling along with an Emad (i.e. pillows, blankets, clothes). If it sounds so good without it, why put it in there? Tone is your friend.

I played the EMAD with the resonant head that came with the kit and got incredible sound. As said in the above statement, the only downfall of the EMAD is the ring. Mine never cracked but it did come off the head on every single one I had. It usually lasted a while, usually until it was time to change the head anyway, but that's the only problem I had with them. They require no extra muffling. Just strap it on there, pick the ring you want and beat the hell out of it!

About the ring- mine fell off one time, but I thought" yeah, whatever, I don't use it anyway ;) "
I guess the best thing to do is to pick one muffler and stick with it.

I've been using the EMAD for three years now. I love the head. One of the best bass drum heads out there.

for my reso-head I use an Aquarian muffled/ported head. Im not sure of it's 'official' name, but it gives my kick a sound like it's triggered. It's amazing, and I will NEVER switch that combination of heads...EVER!!!! haha!!

i actually like using a coated remo weatherking with a 4 in. hole .... i know...some drummers dislike mixing remo and evans but... i use what i think sounds good to me as should be for everything a drummer uses. I don't dislike any type of heads... i like to experiment with all brands. ( exept Attack heads... has any one tried those.... let me know how they sound.)

I use it with just the batter head-no reso and stuck a couple of pillows in there. It sounds pretty good but compared to how it sounded before i put the emad on it sounds amazing. I was looking for the sound of my bass drum at school which is a deep thump but i didnt get that its kind a thump but where it is in my loft it sounds almost electronic which was very very annoying.
