I saw Max Roach & Elvin Jones in the span of a week at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2002. Max was good-he did his tribute to Jo Jones hi hat solo and most of the standards; Elvin was mind blowing (at 72 years old no less!). I really can't even describe it because I was just in awe throughout the entire set. Simply amazing.

My friends and I snuck back stage and met Elvin after his gig. Coolest cat anyone could hope to meet, spent a good amount of time talking with us and was more than willing to answer any questions we had, no matter how many times he'd probably heard them before in his fifty+ years behind the kit. Keiko (his wife) is super nice. Easily the musical highlight of my life.

mine is a guy not alot have probably heard but once i say the band you will know..

Taylor Hawkins from the foo fighters.. hes an extremely talented man.. i went to see his side band called Taylor Hawkins and the coattail riders at the varsity theater in minneapolis.. i swear it was a side opium den but anyways he is the lead singer but also the drummer.. i was atleast 1 foot away from him and his kit and that man can play.. with all honesty i beleive he is one of the greatest alt. rock drummers out there.. he brings genres from all over and forms them together.. amazing drummer check him out..

Best drumming I've seen live is a tie between Danny Carey and Max Weinberg... but nobody, I mean NOBODY it an actual touring real band (not some crap like the Dave Weckl band or Huge Ego Drummer and the Nobodies) was better than Joey Jordison of Slipknot in March of 2000.

At the start of the show he appears behind his kit and theres this strobe light behind him and he starts doing this really animated "liquid dance." If you dont know what liquid dancing is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uSAcQo3CoE anyways then 2 guys come out and throw him his sticks and they start playing "[sic]" He is a VERY entertaining drummer, adn I was very amazed the whole time.

But Max and Danny were amazing too!

I've never seen him live. But I dig his hot, active sounds. That snare is bright as hell.
