Rhytm is a way to transmit a description of experience
in an emotional and not abstract way.
It is more than a metaphor:
It is a physical experience as real as any other.

the best thing ive seen live in tems of drums has been godsmack and if none of you have seen a live show then youve never seen the shannon larkin/sully erna drum battle. its amazing the way they coreograph such a solo, especially when shannon in playing his set and sully is hammering away on a solid set of hand percussion. it blew me away the first time i saw it and again when i saw them 3 nights ago. they have a video of it on yamaha.com and its amazing there.

I've seen a video of them playing together. I agree with you - it was amazing! I'd love to see Shannon Larkin live...

he is quite the monster live and theres very few drums sounds, live or recorded, that stand up to his birch custom absolutes. the coolest thing about the drum battle is that they play perfectly in time, even whey theyre alternating beats. i love every second of.

The drummer from DIO played some awesome solos and did some pretty awesome stuff during songs. I can't remember his name.

Yeahh man he's a great drummer, but he's set is TRUTH drums. The best drummer I've seen live is either Chris Hornbrook of Poison the Well or Mike Justian of Unearth. I know I'll pry get shit, but Travis Barker was awesome live too.

I saw Weckl and his band live as well. I got in for $5 and had a blast watching them for 2.5 hours. It was at my school.

Also, Jon Wysocki of Staind and Jermey Hummel formerly of Breaking Benjamin.

Tommy Aldridge never ceases to amaze me.

Neil Peart, while cliche' to mention, undeniably kicks ass.

Alex Van Halen always kicks ass also!

I saw Buddy Rich in 1984...after his heart surgery...when Dennis Chambers said he played better than ever...I was young, but still remember watching the greatest drummer ever!!! He's to drums, what Babe Ruth was to baseball...nobody even competed with Buddy!! I also saw Elvin Jones...Coltrane's drummer, he's on most of the YOUTUBE videos...it was a year before his death...killed!!!

I've seen Vinnie Colaiuta, Virgil Donati, Bun E. Carlos, Tommy Aldridge, Bobby Blotzer, Dave Weckl, Kelly Keagy, Anton Fig, and Phil Collins and Chester Thompson. The best by far was Vinnie Colaiuta.
