Almost forgot too, Steve Flynn from Atheist. Brilliant drummer, who manages to get fantastic groove into metal songs.

Check this out:

Total legend.

I'd have to say that the best drummer I have seen live would have to be Joey Jordison. Great live drumming.

I've seen several within the last few years that really blew me away: Mike Portnoy, Danny Carey, Joey Jordison, Chris Adler, Keith Carlock, Zoro, the list goes on... But hands down, the most perplexing and generally bad-ass drummer I have ever seen was Rodney Holmes at the Modern Drummer Festival in 2005. He totally blew away my previous thoughts on 4-way independence. You can catch most of his section on the Modern Drummer DVD for that year, but seeing it firsthand was the experience of a lifetime.

Lately anyways, it was JJ Johnson for john mayer, he played a all white ludwig. Most of the grooves are simple for the most part, and somewhat slow. But man what a player.

[quote="loop"]So who's the best drummer you've gotten to see play live? Clinic, concert, in their garage, doesn't matter.

Best drummer live: Brooks Wackerman with Bad Religiion

Best Clinic: Dave Weckl

Best Video: Dennis Chambers

Mine would have to be Tris Imboden from chicogo. I saw them at red rocks a few years back. The hole band is amazing. Especialy the pipe section..

Believe it or not, Rick Allen. The guy did a solo and his facility with one arm was spellbinding. Sounded like he had 2 arms. I was mezmerized by his technique the whole time.
