16 years, started when I was 9. Learned percussion and rudiments, then took up set at 16 and applied what I learned. Still learning all the time from every drummer I see and every gig I've had.

i started almost 3 years ago but i took lessons for the first 2.5 years so i progressed quickly. i dont play hours upon hours everyday but when i do play im constantly trying to push what i can do and when im off the set im usually on forums studying techniques, listening to different drummers to build my knowledge, and trying to help people who need advice. i strive not only to play well but to know everything about drums as well.

Howdy Gang! :D I'm Alex in San Francisco, CA. I'm 35yo & have been playing since I was 17. I'm currently studying with Pete Magadini of Novato, CA., 20 minutes from me, every 2 weeks, & plan on doing so for the next year at least to really 'increase my facility' as he says.

I sold my 1st Pearl export kit, Zildjian Amir cymbals & did take a break from acoustic drums in 1995 while bought the new Roland TD7 basic & expansion kit which I then sold in 2000. I then immediately bought a customized Roland VPro set in 2000 which I keep at home as my practice kit to this day. It's great in that for 11 yrs. I've been able to play at any hour from the comforts of my home music studio.

In June 2006 I finally bought my Acoustic dreamset: A 6pc. Gretsch Catalina Birch in Caribbean blue & 7 of Dave Weckl's Sabian HHX Evolution cymbals. I also have another 6 Zildjian splashes, a Zil Bel for accents, a Pork Pie Little Squealer snare drum as my main snare, DW9000 pedals & HiHat stand, Gibraltar road rack & hardware, Roc n' Soc throne, Vic Firth Dave Weckl Evolution sticks, Timpani mallets, wire jazz brushes, 2 LP cowbells, & an LP low Jamblock. That's it!

Finally, here's a link to my Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/alexander23 with some pics & videos & my 2 brothers, myself, & our gear jamming twice a week as we have since June 06' :!:

I've been playing all total for about 36 years.

I started at 1.5 years old and became a professional (as in making $$) at the age of 12 playing weddings.

In 1993 I quit my day job and started doing this full-time.

Just under four years. Ending up using one year of it just to learn to play in time and to better my reading. Glad I did it, but I'm behind on things that other people are probably experts at by now.
I'm catching up though! :D

About four years now. I took lessons for about two and a half. I also spent two years in marching band. And like everyone else, I wish I started playing drums a lot sooner.

I've been playing for about 20 years now. I'm 28 years old and I first picked up a pair of drumsticks when I was 8. My older brother made a pair of drumsticks in his high school shop class and just tossed them in the corner. I found them.
