personally, I think the worst snare sound I've ever heard was the fake-ass snare sound on Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me". Any of a number of other gated/reverbed/overcompressed monstrosities from the mid/late 80's would also qualify.

those snare sounds from that era...blech...it's like the decay was louder than the attack.

Whats even worse....sound guys from that era!

"Ummmm....hey buddy can you roll off some of that gated verb please. Thaaaaaank you"

Im kinda havin some fun now with my side snare. I pretty much just tell the sound guy to have at it and make it sound hip-hoppy. Im more than likely going to move into the electronic realm again in the next year if all continues well with my current band. Ill be tappin your wisdom Alan!

NO CRAPPY SNARES! 8)

I honestly never liked any of Lars's snare sounds on any metallica album it's too buzzy for me and I just gave st. Anger another listen to remind me of what his snare sounded like and I laughed!

Lars had a great sound in AFJA, his sound on the current album rivals that of St Anger for the worst sound ever.

Don't get me started on those Def Leotard "paranoia" Snare sounds. Ultimately Phil Collins has a lot to answer for in this area.

I'd say Jose's snare has had that characteristic since Morning View. But I wouldn't say it's necessarily bad.

Oh yes, thanks Speemar.
What's wrong with that snare? It sounds right to me, exactly the sound I would expect with that music. If your that unhappy then why release it? Are you not a Band Member? Don't you have a say in the production?
