idk if anyone has ever heard of Symphony X, but the drummer, Jason Rullo, gets a really nice sounds out of his drums on the recordings for their album "The Odyssey". i also like Dave Weckl's tom sound.

I'm a big fan of the sound Josh Freese has on any Vandals album and the Perfect Circle albums. Then again, I'm a huge fan of his playing.

personally at the moment the best studio drum kit ive currently heard is martin lopez ex drummer for Opeth. his kit sound on most of opeths albums sound brilliant the toms are bright but still contain all the warmth and low end. if you want to check out his sound i would buy the album deliverance.

any one else agree? or even a fan?

also its growing on me, is the sound Hellhammer (Jan Axel Blomberg) has on the arcturus albums they are triggered but still sound great for the style of synth based black metal.

anyways thats currently top of my drums sounds. but there are hundreds of drum sounds i like. but fav opeth at the moment.

If we're talking about current recordings we should be focusing on which engineer and producer have the best sounding drums. Or which effects produce the best drum sounds. Or which samples....
I don't know what I'm talking about!

Everyone has their own opinion because we all like different types of music. The choice of snare sound will vary depending on desired sound from the snare. And who ever is doing the recording.

i love rullo. his piece in the very beginning of "of sins and shadows" is one of my favorite drum pieces

Jason Bittner's drum work on all of the shadows Fall albums(that he was apart of) is awesome. The flow that he has is really cool. It was amazing as a drummer, and a fan(biggest inspiration) to watch him play all the songs and stuff...amazing. the rolls and stuff he does sound somewhat crisp like to me.

I always liked Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains sound. I like Tomas Haake's drums. I like how is able to get a good natural drum sound for the heavy music he does. The older I get, the less I like that typewriter clicky grindcore sound. I know its necassary to hear all the notes etc, but there's no accounting for taste I guess. I like Dave Abrusseze's sound off of those Pearl Jam albums. Very Hot and live.

This is fucking SAD!!! FOUR PAGES!!! No one even mentioned Nicko McBrain of IRON MAIDEN!!! Listen to A Matter of Life and Death!!! 2006 album! The drumming is fuckin' fantastic!!! He is my idol! Best drummer out there in my eyes! Does what the double bass players do, with a single!!! And none of you give him ANY respect?! WTF?! Three fucking words:

I proudly play with Tama (snare drums), PDP, Sabian, LP, Paiste, Vic Firth, Aquarian (bass and snare heads), and Remo (tom heads)brands! My biggest drummer influences are Mic Fleetwood, Nicko McBrain, and Mike Portnoy.
