so there's some old A Custom Hi Hats that i can get for $110 shipped, according to the serial number in the pics they are from 1996. Seller says there are NO cracks, deep scratches, gauges, no warping etc..

the logo's have been polished off but i'm not really too worried about that.

my question is should i hold out for another "newer" pair of hi hats? are these more prone to cracks etc since they are old?

well, first of all $110 for hi hats is a DEAL

i dont think that them being older makes them that much more suseptable to cracks. if anything, some people enjoy the sound of older cymbals (I do) as they have had time to mellow

if i were you, id get em

well if its older it may crack eaiser because you dont know how he played on them and
thats a good deal on hi hats but its a risky move though.

uhm...it matters but ive never been able to hear the sublty of difference myself. anywho...

the bottom hat is thicker than the top hat. you can either feel it out or just weight them on something sensitive (something that weights in grams)

the bottom hat should in most cases be heavier than the top

well i got the planet z's with the kit when ibought it used.

just recieved my A Customs in mail today. Upon pulling them out of the box they looked GREAT! No cracks, keyholings, dents or anything like that just like the seller said. Went and switched them out with my Planet Z's and WOW! They give such a better sound than the planet z's (no shit eh?) so much brighter and fuller in sound, great stick definition. They are LOUD! Not like obnoxiously loud, but it matches the rest of the kit in volume. These are great hats, considering i bought them for $100 :P I have yet to have a band practice with them but i'll let you guys know how it goes on tuesday.

IMHO it's hard to beat A customs. Glad you are happy with them. P.O.Y!
