I'm looking into making a cymbal stack because I'm going to be working all next week and gonna be getting some money. I was watching some Mike Portnoy solos and his stacks sound really cool but I don't have $300 to get his signature ones so I was thinking about making one.

There is a Wuhan splash pack on Musicians Friend and just stacking them and if it doesn't turn out good I can just get a cymbal stacker and use them separate.

Is this a good idea or should I just pass and get a 10" XS20 splash? Either way I'm still gonna have to pay $40 for a cymbal stand.

stacks are usually like a 12" splash under a 10" china
or 10" splash under 9.5" china

or for really trashy you can do china/china stacks

That price is dirt cheap, 20 bucks a cymbal. I cant comment on how they sound but i've heard they are trashy so i assume that would translate into a trashy stack. Although they are usually stacked with a china it means you have half your stack there plus another splash if i was in america i would probably be buying that now even if it was just for spare plushes or even gifts for friends. Then again you guys have way cheaper cymbals over there so it may not be as greater value from your perspectives. In the end it's YOUR money for whatever cymbals YOU want.

that is an opinion, and an unasked for one at that..

wuhans do what they do, they sound trashy and un-pure because that's what they're made out of
un-pure metal but they still sound good and are cheap
and they even sound good after they're cracked

I know it's supposed to be a china ontop of a splash but I'm not sure if I want to get a Wuhan China and Splash because I might need to get a Cymbal Spring to fit it on the stand because of the distance between the splash bell and the china's cone bell.

Well I was just experimenting on my set and seeing if I can find a good position for the stack and it's too close in and it's uncomfortable so I'm gonna Have to put it high and I think that if I put a china on top it would destroy my sticks and it would crack easier so I might have to go with the double splashes. I'm not sure if I should spend the $40 to get the pack or just pay $50 more and get the XS20 splash which might be more useful and versitile and when my APX splash cracks get a 10" china and make a stack.

that would depend on your definition of crap.

they are the real deal. I've never heard anything from Zildjian, Paiste, Sabian etc. that sounded like an authentic china cymbal.

I got a 14" Zildjian oriental china trash stacked on a 15" stagg crash with a cracked 12" A custom splash in the middle. Sounds absolutley brilliant.

I have had other china's before. Expensive ones. I currently have a 20" Oriental trash china.

Nothing I've used sounds as authentic like the Wuhan's. I will ALWAYS have a Wuhan China on my set.
