I refuse to buy thick cymbals anymore. First off, they are too brash in most applications. Thats why A customs, AAX Xplosions
are the thin types i go after now. vaults and aax xplosions are amongst my favorites.

I plan on buying more AAXplosions too, those things are great

Sabian makes great cymbals that are made in the Zildjian tradtion because "Sabian" are really made by a Zildjian! I started buying Sabians because they were about $15 cheaper per cymbal for many years. I really love the early 80's HHs because they are like the 1970's Canadian K's which Zildjian made until the factory was converted to the Sabian factory in 1980. My 19" Medium Heavy Ride is very unique like old Zildjians were made, now all cymbals in a class or line sound the same ... which does not turn my ears on. I am constantly looking for old, used cymbals especailly early 80's HHs - awesome cymbals.

Here is a list of my Sabians that I still own and have been collecting since 1987:

19" HH Medium Heavy Ride (early 80's)
18" HH Sound Control - Crash Ride
17" HH Thin Crash (early 80's)
13" AA Regular Hats w/extra 13" Flat Hat bottom with 2 rivets & 1 jingle
14" HH Duo Hats
14" AAX Studio Crash
15" AAX Studio Crash
19" AAX Studio Crash (custom ordered 2002)
22" HHX Evolution Ride (custom ordered 2002)
7" HHX Evolution Splash
8" AA Splash
10" AA Splash
10" AAX Splash

18" Tosco China (made by Sabian) - that is better than any Sabian china I've owned or heard except the 19" Paragon China - which is great!

Other Sabian's I've owned:

20" HHX Manhatten Ride
16" HH Thin Crash
18" HH Thin China
16" AA Medium Crash

Awesome cymbals ...

I have returned to the drums after a short break...of 24 years.
I've been playing V drums, but I am currently building a dual purpose Acoustic / Electric kit as you can see here.
Image

The shell pack is a Gretsch Catalina in Maple, with two Roland V Drums and an SPD-S.
Roland PD-105BK Side Snare / Effects Drum
Roland PD-125BK Snare

The 'E' cymbals are Smartrigger, but the acoustic kit will be all or 95% Sabian.

I have bought a few already that I have heard and liked, so will try them on the kit and see
what works well together.

So far I have these or they are enroute to me. 8)

Sabian AA 10" Splash Cymbal
Sabian AAX Fusion Hats 13" £
Sabian AAX Stage High Hats 14"
Sabian AAX Stage Crash 16"
Sabian AAX Chinese 16"
Sabian AAX Stage Ride 20"
Sabian HH Power Bell Ride 22"

I'll only keep one set of Hi-Hats and will decide once I have been able to compare.

My ideal set up to mirror the 'E' set up will include a 2nd or 3rd crash, a second china and second splash, so these are being looked into.

Sabian AAX 6" Splash
Sabian AA 8" Splash

Sabian AAX Xplosion 16" Crash
Sabian AA Rocktagon 16" Crash
Sabian AAX Stage 18" Crash
Sabian AAX Xplosion 18" Crash

Sabian HH China Kang Chinese 10"
Sabian AA Mini Chinese 12"
Sabian AA Mini Chinese 14"
Sabian AAX Mini Chinese 12"
Sabian AAX Mini Chinese 14"
Sabian HHX Evolution Mini-Chinese 14"

Reviews and comments to follow! 8)

Well I have my 20" AAX prototype crash/ride/thingy which is great, I use it as a trashy and dry crash instead of a ride anymore, kind of like a watered down china. But it's definately a top notch and unique cymbal.

I just picked up some 13" AAX Fast Hats today, but I won't be able to play them until monday so I'll finish the review then. And I'm also gonna be getting either an AA or AAX 18" China sometime next week so I'll post about that too.

Gee wilickers I love Sabian!

Following on from my above post, I ended up with a second Gretsch kit, a Renown Maple.
I have now completed my kit and cymbal set up and totally love the range of tones available to me. 8)

Ok well the fast hats are basically sex. Bright, crisp, great definition, amazing chick, and a great foot splash as well. It makes me wish they made them in HHX. Best hats I've ever played.

And the china might end up being a new ride instead to replace my horrible AA Metal-X Ride. Either a 22" AAX Stage Ride or the HH Power Bell Ride. Or it could be a china. Or 2 splashes. You never know with me. 8)

Well work screwed up my paycheck (they called me in a few hours early one day and called me in on my day off once) and those hours aren't counted on my paycheck so I'm in the process of fixing that now. Because without those extra hours I probably won't be able to afford the Power Bell. But the manager who clocked me in when I wasn't on the scedule is gone (he got transferred to another restaurant) so this could take a while

Not just of the Powerbell on it's own, but I took these so far. 8)
Hope to take some more next week. :D
