So I just ordered the pork pie haha. I'll keep you updated on how it sounds when it gets here.

Check out some aluminum snares. They have the body and warmth of wood and the crack and volume of a metal shell.

Personally i have a 6.5 x 14 Pearl Ultracast snare and that thing is a beauty both when it comes to look and sound, but unless you can cough up the $500 bucks i'd suggest looking at other things.

Haha yeah, I really didn't have enough for an ultracast. The pork pie is awesome though, exactly what I'm looking for! Really versitile too!

Coming from a background of having played on metal snares for way too long, I would go with a brass snare drum. If it were my money, I would be looking at the Ahead black on brass with the Trick throw-off.

Yeah, well I think the next snare I get may be the pork pie version of the black beauty (pork pie big black).

Get the Pork Pie. No question. Body will be hard to find with either. Crack will be killing with rimshots on both, but the Pork Pie will sound warmer.
