Snare Questions

Postby metldrummer2112 » Fri Feb 27, 2009 7:20 pm

I'm getting a little bit of money for my birthday on sunday and want to work on my Joey Jordison Signature snare. I know I'm getting new heads for it but I have a few other questions

1) Puresound Snare Wires
I'm looking at a set of 20 Strand Puresound Snare Wires and wanted to know how big of a step up this would be from the wires that came standard on the drum

2) Trick Throwoff
I know NOTHING of the Trick throwoff except that I've heard it's a great throwoff. So I want to know what affects it would have on my drum, and if I could even get it to fit on a 13"x6.5" drum. I went on the website and it didn't give me any measurements

I can help you out with the Puresounds... BUY THEM!! lol
I bought a set of 20 strand Blasters about a year ago and was amazed at the sound difference, they were much much louder yet also more sensitive. Another thing I noticed is that you can crank them tight and not choke the drum (at least not on any of the snares I have)
As for the Trick throwoff I dont own one, but I did try one on a snare very recently. All I can say is that thing is smoooothe lol. It also locks in your snare tension with little clicks which I found pretty cool. I have no idea about the measurements or if it would fit that particular snare, sorry. But it is the sexiest looking throwoff you can buy in my opinion and would add a L'il pimp to most any snare 8)
Hope this helps

The Trick strainer hole pattern is 7/8ths so if you're JJ snare's hole pattern isn't the same it won't fit without drilling, My suggestion would be the Dunnett throw off, it adjusts to fit any existing hole pattern.

Thanks PJ, I'll look at my snare and find out. If it doesn't work I'll check out the Dunnett

I would suggest putting that 150.00 towards a second quality snare drum.

I don't know where you're getting 150 from, but that would be a good idea

Well a snare is a very personal thing and in my opinion if you like the JJ as many do, then I say beef it up!! the snare wires and throwoff would run you only like 100$ and youll always have them in the future if you wanna switch them out to another snare.

puresounds........... 30-60 bucks
the trick throw....... I estimate about 60 bucks
and heads of your choice, 35.00

Pretty close to 150.

And even then, you still have those ghetto "S" designs on your snare.

The Puresounds I'm looking at are $25
I really don't think I'll be looking at a new throwoff right now, it seems kinda pointless with as little money as I have
I don't plan on reheading the bottom of the snare, so more like $15

So more like 40

And the day that warranty expires, the "S"'s are being painted off. I HATE them, I want a flat black snare. I was thinking about maybe a brass snare or something, all I know is i want 13"x6.5" or 13"x7"

Check your hole spacing on the throw off, I have a DW that I am not going to use. It includes fasteners, and the rubber spacer gasket. Its never been on a drum, but does have a slight bit of shelf wear. And shouldnt cost more than 5 or 6 bucks to ship.
