OCDP snare at guitar center?

Postby drummerboi4130 » Sun Jul 13, 2008 1:32 am

so my friend and i went to guitar center the other day and we noticed there was an OCDP maple snare on sale for $200.
we were wondering: why is it so cheap? is it just a really good deal?

no, it's a crap drum mass produced probably made in japan or something with a ocdp badge on it..
i wouldn't pay 200 for a real ocdp snare anyway
drums - pacific LX
cymbals - saluda black mist, voodoo
pedals - axis, iron cobra
gear - DW, rock n' sock
sticks - vic firth

why does everyone always have a go at stuff made in other countries? especially Japan. But yeh i wouldnt get that i have never really heard great things about OC other than they are very expensive. As everyone always says to answer snare drum questions, forget it and get an acrolite, then go from there

Manufactured does not equal poor quality, just like custom built does not guarantee great craftsmanship. There's plenty of hand built garbage made in the US, quality varies depending on the maker (just like with mass-produced products)

Look at it this way. There are only a few factories that mass produce drums. They make the drum and slap a badge on it. They make drums for hundreds of different companies. The only difference is the badge they put on it. SO if the companies they make drums for are OCDP, Pork Pie, Sunlite, CB700, and HB, what does that say?

Also, mass produced drum's bearing edges are not trued, they're cut and then moved to the next step.

im not saying this snare was great, but i dont think it coming from japan should be the reason behind it. if you had said "it's cheapily made" fair enough, but "made in japan" is not a synonym for "peice of crap"

There's a reason it's called GUITAR center.
