AUSTIN: sxsw "unofficial" gigs

Postby Alan_ » Fri Mar 06, 2009 12:55 pm

I always find it hilarious that bands pay sxsw to play, as we do "unofficial" parties and seem to get HILARIOUS turnouts.

anyway, I'm doing stuff on both days of this party: playing with I'm Gorgeous Inside on Friday and Chase Frank both days, and dj'ing a couple of hours on wednesday.

I'm also playing a gig at the Chain Drive on Tuesday with I'm Gorgeous Inside, and dj'ing at/putting on the following event...

Ah, SXSW! I went once in 1997. It was a wild time -- I remember seeing the Fugees play in a backyard! I didn't play a gig -- just went to the seminars and networked. Had some good BBQ and Tex Mex -- my buddy who had moved there from LA showed us around. He took us to some giant porno emporium that was in a residential house! So Texas . . .

I've played Austin since, but never as part of SXSW.

It's mayhem every single year. Usually I'll play a few times, but this year is out of hand. I also am playing another gig on saturday. Whew!

Hah, so you went back when it was still feasible for workings stiffs to afford a wristband. The price went through the roof maybe 7 years back, and keeps rising higher every single year.
