Might I suggest the Zoom H2 or Zoom H4? I haven't gotten to try it myself, but a friend who plays guitar recommends it strongly. He uses it to record concepts for his whole band. Search for it on YouTube, should find you a few examples.

My band bought a FirePod from Presonus, but you need mics for that, which is a bunch of bucks. Depending on your room you could even get good results with a cam corder. If it's for personal use I suggest the H2 or H4.
