Pearl Export or Mapex Meridian Birch

Postby seanfracture » Mon Mar 22, 2010 6:09 am

Hi guys,

Wondering if I could have some advice? I'm looking to buy a decent kit for as little as possible, and I'm torn between these:

Obviously the Mapex is newer, more modern and is brand new. I guess what I want to know is whether there is a huge uplift in quality between the two? I've been playing for nearly 10 years but have never actually owned a kit (go easy on me!).

Thanks,

- Sean

Too bad you are across the pond, I'm selling a Mapex M-series in great shape. Shipping would kill the cost though.
To your question, I have very little Pearl experience, but have always been impressed with Mapex.

The exports will last a while, they are built great. The Mapex is birch while the Export is poplar (a cheap maple like wood). Really either is a step a above what you have now, lol, the deal breaker for most people is the mounting systems.

I have an export, and I've played the Mapex's, and there is really no contest. Get the Mapex.

To be honest I have never really been impressed with pearl, its not that they are bad it just there is such a hype over pearl drums and other drum maker are just as good and cheaper. I have just bought a Mapex Saturn kit and I cant wait to get it!!!
So I would go for the mapex.
