I'm shocked that there's no thread on this legend on here! Sean Kinney of Alice In Chains!?!? This guy is seriously amazing, he's making me get back into slower more groove oriented drumming.

I love Kinney. He has so much potential, songs like No Excuses highlight that perfectly.

I REALLY like his playing on the recordings. like "would?" for example. groove floats 2 feet off the ground. so light feelwise for such pounding heaviness. Live, they were hit or miss. Seen em twice, once was great, the other time not so much.

Oh yeah he's amazing on recordings. I can't really speak for the band so much, but if Layne's part was a little off, I think we both know why 8)

see, that was true of the whole band tbh, hence the uneven live performances.

Oh yeah I remembered that right after I posted this. I have a DVD of all of AIC's music videos and there's an interview in the very beginning from before they released Facelift and were all living together. There were empty beer bottles and cans EVERYWHERE. I don't know about drugs since no one else in the band is dead, but I sure wouldn't put it past them

heroin was all through everything in the 90's. shame, that. it was all over the place here in austin, lost a couple of dear friends that way. NOT a good idea.

That sucks Alan. I don't get the point of drugs, but I especially don't understand synthetic drugs. Plants, if you wanna use em go ahead, nature made them, not some junkie in a lab.

I could imagine AIC doing heroine though. Very very easily

opiates are from a plant too. some people have a lot of pain to deal with, and think that ignoring the problem by blocking it out will do the trick. unfortunately for them, it usually works out the exact opposite.

My dad is a prime example of that (except with alcohol).
And I meant unprocessed plants, morphine isn't a drug anyone should get themselves into. Or codeine. Probably not opium either. I meant stuff like weed, Jimson Weed, detora (sp). Stuff that doesn't take a giant hold over you

but that's what I'm getting at: they're so far gone emotionally from having to deal with mental trauma that they WANT something to have a giant hold over them. not saying I think it's a good route, but I can definitely understand the rationale. most of my friends who ended up messed up like that had unbelievably traumatic experiences that led them to want to escape, at all costs.

That much I understand. My dad's been through a lot in his life. But a lot of that has been caused by the drinking and drugs. I get the rationale, I guess I don't understand going down that route.

Anyone heard either of the 2 new AIC singles? I really like Check My Brain, not so much A Looking In View Though. I don't really like Duvall's (the new singer) voice, and it's just too hard to replace the irreplacable Layne Staley. All in all it's really good though
