Hey guys,

Sorry that I have been out of the loop for awhile. I've been working two jobs to make ends meet, so I haven't had much time to be on here.

Over the past three weeks or so, I have noticed a highly annoying problem with my Iron Cobra and still can't seem to figure it out. Whenever, I hit the pedal sometimes it gets stuck and will not move. It doesn't do it all the time, but just enough so that it makes me miss important beats. I have tried cleaning it, oiling it, messing with the pedal board angle, messing with tension, messing with beater angle and nothing seems to work. Could it be the ball bearing?

I actually started on a night that someone used my drumset. My band was playing a show and we were told to go ahead and set up. We knew that there were two acts going on before us, but we knew both of them were smaller sized bands that didn't use a drumkit. However, 15 minutes before the show started, one of the bass players of the smaller act asked if his drummer could use my drumkit. At that point, I had no choice. Normally, I don't like people messing with my stuff and try to avoid it, but with this situation the only choice I had was to take my stuff off (which is already somewhat of a hassle since I use a rack) or just bite the bullet and bear it. Well, when they started playing, I could hear the bass drum, but after 15 minutes I noticed I couldn't hear it anymore and I noticed that he couldn't play the pedal. It would get stuck and he would try to knock it out being stuck with his foot.

When I played the pedal before when I was setting up, I didn't have a problem. When I played on my set 3 hours before, I didn't have a problem.

So, I don't know.

Yeh, I have tighten all of the bolts and have looked on Youtube for fixes. I think the Iron Cobra I have was made in 2005. I don't know, I'm thinking of just delving into it and seeing if there is an issue that just can't be seen with the naked eye.

when it gets stuck, have you tried getting down there and examining it? do u know what area of the pedal the resistance/friction is coming from?

Try to take it fully apart. Besides wether you can check for internal damage, it's always good to clean the bearings and inner parts. Then if you put it back together you'll be certain that all the inside screws are tight.

Be sure to actually take everything apart, the footboard, chain and heelplate. That way you can really check if anything is wrong in there.

If the problem still occurs after you've put it back together, is almost has to be a problem you can't fix. Like maybe a busted bearing or something.

Good luck with it, your only luck is that the cobra's come apart quite easily. Just make sure you don't lose any parts.

Yeh, I haven't gotten that far yet. A day after I posted, I busted my finger. Pulled or tore some tendons in my right index finger and haven't really been able to do much since. Kind of sucks! After a week of it being swollen, I went to the doctor and she asked me what my occupation was and I told her that I was a grad student and a drummer.... I knew she wanted to tell me not to play, but she didn't. But I have been trying not to play since, so my finger can heal.

Yeah that sucks bigtime! I once fell of my scooter and broke a really small bone in my left hand. Still, my entire lowerarm had to be cast in plaster for it to heal. During that time I kept drumming with my other three limbs, just to keep them going. After six weeks, when the plaster got of, my left arm looked like that of an alien. Luckaly my hand healed fine and my arm was back to normal within two months or something. After that I never had any trouble with it.
So yeah, take the rest, at least for that hand and it should work out fine. Good luck with it!

Does it also get stuck when you try playing it without being attached to the bass drum?

Am thinking if something relating to the hoop or clamp mechanism is getting in the way when the pedal is attached to the drum.
