From what YouTube tells me, it's basically RRLLRRLL, but done as a buzz roll. However, I can never get it perfect, or quiet, or fast enough. How do you guys do drum rolls?

From where I'm sat a drum roll could encompass a buzz roll, single or double stroke roll.

I refer to them in those terms for clarification.

What you have described is the double stroke roll.

The buzz roll basically requires throwing the stick down and then pressing the stick into the head slightly to get it to bounce as many times as possible, while ovelapping the hands.

The double stroke roll can be played using a similar technique, but requires skill to keep it from becoming a buzz roll as you only want 2 bounces per stick.

The double stroke roll is far cleaner than the buzz.

Check this video for a couple of great rolls, doubles at 1.13 and then singles immediately after.
