I love using flying fingers.

I started out by just practicing it in my hand using only the middle and ring finger. just getting the motion. Also, without the stick...just touching my palm with the middle and ring finger. Thats how I started out, I hope it helps.

Well, I don't know why he's wearing a Tigger suit...but oh well...

I'm unimpressed. It's just good finger technique. There's no special name for it. If there was, I've been doing this for 5 years now. It's jus a good finger control and speed.

And also, you can use your index, middle and ring finger all at once. Hell, use you pinky too. Think about it. if you use 4 fingers to accomplish the work of two fingers, that equals to an easier workload all around. So, use all of the fingers. One, if give more control, and two, it takes the slack off a little.

blink- my bad, I meant to say the "ring" finger instead of the "index" i edited it in my post.

homki- there are different names when you use your index and middle finger and rotating them, same thing as well and the other fingers. But the flying fingers tech should only really include the middle and ring finger.

I'm only a beginner but I can actually do this pretty fast with both hands. Must be all that Moeller practising.

come on man you can do that...what i mean by that is if you cant do it right now, just practice it and you WILL be able to, thats not difficult, just a lot of speed, dont let some guy in a tigger suit make you want to quit

/\ the tigger guy isnt making me want to quit, its the fact that i cant go fast and i lose control too often and my left hand just blows.

lol i know man it was funny to see tigger after i read your first comment. seriously though all you really gotta do is practice. got a practice pad? sit there and just do strokes with your left hand while watching tv, tap on counter tops with your left hand when you dont have sticks in them, anything. get used to using your left hand more and eventually it willl come to you. for some people it takes longer than others. but that blast beat is something you can definitely do weather you have control or not right now, keep at it and it will happen

What he doesn't tell you in the vid, is the Tigger suit is part of the key to the speed.

Tigger wrote:The wonderful thing about Tiggers, is Tiggers are wonderful things.
Their tops are made out of rubber, their bottoms are made out of springs.

See, with all that rebound potential, Tiggers were just made for blast beats.

This same system of using your fingers is taught by Dave Weckl in is first DVD Back to the Basics, it really explains not only using your fingers for speed and control, but also making the transition from using your wrist to using your fingers while playing. I recommend you check that video out. It really helped me get this technique down, and implement it into my set playing. When it comes to getting fast, honestly you just have to practice. I mean from a completely logical stand point, you have to develop the muscle strength and dexterity, as well as the muscle memory, to be able to do it as fluently as Tigger

look at this video. He is out of the costume but it is a very important video.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JgIvwTe_wIQ&hl=en"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JgIvwTe_wIQ&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

you can't expect to do things immaterially, it takes a long time and hours of practice.

I agree: that's not some specific technique. he just has good finger control.
