yeah, I work as a switchboard operator for a public utility org. we're the main switchboard for several dams and power plants and such, so there's about 2500 distinct extensions I can connect someone to. because of the call volume, huge number of possible connections and potentially sensitive nature of many calls, they pay us pretty well. they also allow us to play around on the net within the paramaters of acceptable web content all day long. sure helps me to concentrate when I have something to multitask with.

yeah, i'm a body piercer and work my shop from 10-8 all week
and if it's a slow day or down time i sit on here
it's kind of nice being able to do something kind of interesting
while having to sit and make sure the phone calls get taken care of
haha

seriously, without something slightly engaging to chill me out, I'd be much more inclined to be much less polite to some of the idiots we get calls from.

Im mostly on at my day job too. I get it on my iphone when not at work cause its the only internet I choose to have at home. Responding on that is a pain now though since the new G3 "ooooooo  " came out. I swear its a conspiracy by apple to force us old iphone owners to switch to the new.

I do CAD drafting for a remodeling firm, and there's a lot of waiting involved. I'm usually on my computer all day - and I work from home most of the time, unless I have to go on a measure, or do some photography for a job, or something. Now I'm on here a lot, as work's been pretty slow lately - good and bad, that..

I remember many MANY moons ago when I worked as a dishwasher for this really tasty bbq joint. god that was a terrible job. to begin with, the smoker and the dish station were in the same room. on top of that, the kitchen managers were arrogant pricks who liked to blame their mistakes on their underlings. to top it off, the restaurant manager was an arrogant drunk who was completely irrational and unreasonable.

one day, I had hurt my back doing something unrelated to my job the night before, and came into work and notified my kitchen manager that I needed to go home. I told her I could call in my friend who also worked there to cover the rest of my shift. so, I'm in the middle of the call, and the restaurant manager comes in and starts yelling at me at the top of his lungs to get off the phone, no personal calls at work, wtf do you think you're doing you f**kin idiot, etc. the phone is in the dining room, mind you. I slammed the phone down and started bitching him out in front of 150+ customers at full volume. mind you, I can yell REALLY loud, like loud enough to drown out the most seasoned drill seargent. I called him a drunk, told him where he could stick his job, told him maybe he needed another shot to calm his drunk ass down, etc. He threatened to call the cops on me, I flipped him off and told him to go ahead as I was on my way out the door anyway. As I left, the entire dining room started applauding, and several customers got up and followed me out the door. HILARIOUS>
